2025 has been a banner year for Quaise Energy, which aims to give the world access to clean, renewable geothermal energy—the heat beneath our feet—on a scale equal to fossil fuels. Milestones include drilling a record 118 meters (about 390 feet) with pure energy rather than conventional drill bits, and drilling new holes at the same quarry in Texas for several live public demonstrations.

Now the company has been named one of Houston’s top workplaces by the Houston Chronicle. “This is another huge milestone for us,” said Sonia Christian, Senior Human Resources Business Partner at Quaise. “It’s one more testament to the success of the organization.”

Among the statistics gleaned from the Chronicle’s survey of Quaise employees: 96 percent would recommend working at Quaise to others.

“I joke that that makes my job easy on the recruiting side, since there are so many internal referrals,” Christian said. She’s one of them, leaving the Houston Rockets to join “a company that is redefining what’s possible in geothermal energy.”

“For 13 seasons, I had the privilege of working with an NBA team where I witnessed firsthand the power of perseverance, teamwork, strategy, and game-changing moments. Now, I find myself in a whole new arena—one where the stakes are just as high, and the breakthroughs just as electrifying.”

Survey respondents were asked for specifics about why they are happy working for Quaise. Among the answers: “working with talented and motivated people, seeing tangible progress with goals, and a transparent leadership team that makes you feel included.”

We’re proud of this honor, and even more excited about what’s ahead!

The company’s vision also came up repeatedly.

Wrote one employee, “The general message and story that Quaise is telling the world is incredible and this demonstrates the direction in which we are going. We want to be an energy powerhouse, producing geothermal heat not just for some industrial site here and there, but terawatts of energy to feed the electric grid. Dream big, play big. The concurrent development of all strategies to support this vision is key and I like this direction.”

From an HR perspective, said Christian, “when you think about what people really need to thrive at work, it’s a lot like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, but for the workplace: a mission to accomplish, a culture to embrace, a place to grow, and people you respect and enjoy. At Quaise, I believe we’re delivering on all four and this recognition is proof of that.”

She continued, “being named a top workplace isn’t just about the award, it’s a reflection of our people, their passion, and the community we’ve built together. We’re proud of this honor, and even more excited about what’s ahead!”

Christian notes that when she tells people about Quaise and what the company is doing, she gets the same reaction that she got while working with the Rockets: “That is so cool. You’re doing what? That’s amazing.”
